With T20I series win against Zimbabwe, India record most international victories in 2024

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team thumped Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the fourth T20I and clinched the five-match series by taking an unassailable lead of 3-1 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday. It was a pure masterclass from both the Indian openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal who made a terrific opening stand of 156 runs and made the chase look like a cakewalk.

It is noteworthy that with the series victory, the Men in Blue have now recorded the most wins in international cricket in 2024 so far. Surpassing Australia’s 17 victories, India have now registered 18 international wins this year and the tally is surely to increase in the coming months. However, it will be a tussle between the two nations who are also bound to play the Border Gavaskar Trophy Test series down under.

India clinch series 3-1

Nonetheless, India registered a third consecutive win against hosts Zimbabwe to seal the series after suffering a shocking defeat in the first T20I. In the Saturday clash, India opted to field first as Zimbabwe posted 152/7 in 20 overs, a reputable target to say the least. The Indian bowling department saw all-rounder Abhishek Sharma and debutant Tushar Deshpande pick their maiden international wickets respectively.

Brimming with confidence, the Indian openers strode out to the middle and looked in great touch with the bat. They had the answers to everything Zimbabwe’s bowling attack was planning against them and nothing could ultimately work out for the hosts. Jaiswal struck an unbeaten 93 off 53 laced with 13 fours and two sixes while his partner and skipper Gill smashed 58 not out off 39 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes as both stitched a 156-run stand and chased the target in a mere 15.2 overs.

With the win, India clinched the five-match T20I series 3-1 and will play a dead rubber at the same venue on July 14, Sunday.
