New Delhi: Marc Cucurella has posted a sarcastic social media post of 10 words to hit back at recent criticism from Gary Neville. Before the start of the European Championship Neville doubted Cucurella but the left-back and Spain proved the ITV pundit wrong. La Roja beat England 2-1 in Berlin with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the decisive goal in the 86th minute after Cole Palmer’s equalizer in a goal landed in the second half.
Marc Cucurella provided the assist for Oyazarabal’s winner against the Three Lions. He was one of the consistent players in Spain’s squad contributing to their strong defensive record throughout the tournament. Cucurella has proven Neville and many other critics wrong.
Earlier in the tournament former England and Man United right-back Gary Neville wasn’t impressed with Chelsea’s new defender. “He’s not been convincing,” he said during the group stage.
He’s aggressive, he’s tenacious, he’s a busy little fullback [but] the price tag still astounds everyone to this day. He then linked this to the Spanish defense, saying, “The Spanish defense, it’s got a lot of experience now but there’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re not going to go all the way. I have to say that him being at left-back is a good example of why we think that.”
Gary Neville highlighted Chelsea man as a possible weak link and suggested that his presence was a reason Spain wouldn’t advance far in the tournament.
After Spain’s victory, Marc Cucurella took to social media to leave Neville red-faced. His story read “We went all the way Gary. Thanks for your support,” accompanied by love heart, trophy, and Spanish flag emojis.
