New Delhi: West Indies player Jason Holder grabbed a sensational catch to put an end to an outstanding innings by Ben Duckett on the first day of the second Test match against England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. After winning the toss, the visitors invited the hosts to bat first and the decision paid off as Zak Crawley was dismissed for a duck in the opening over by Alzarri Joseph.
But Ben Duckett stood firm at the other end showing his masterclass with bat as he scored a sensational half-century to set the base for the English side. Duckett accumulated 71 runs off just 59 deliveries which included 14 boundaries but fell shy of a century. After the first strike, Duckett unexpectedly launched a counter-attack on the Windies bowling and accumulated quick runs in the process.
Fastest team fifty in Test history
However, his innings was cut short in the 19th over by Shamar Joseph who put an end to his lethal powerplay. Duckett helped England race past 50 runs in just 4.2 overs, setting a new record for the fastest team fifty in Test history. In the 10th over, Duckett reached his half-century off just 32 balls, becoming the fourth fastest English batter to do so in Test cricket.
However, Joseph, with the assistance of Holder‘s fielding brilliance, halted his innings in the 19th over with a full delivery just outside off, which Duckett attempted to drive through the line. The ball caught a thick outside edge of the bat and travelled to the slips where Holder took a remarkable catch.
