New Delhi: Former India captain Sunil Chhetri’s brace helped Bengaluru FC beat Mohammedan Sporting in Kolkata to go to the top of the Indian Super League table overtaking Mohun Bagan on Wednesday.
Chettri came on as a second half substitute with his side trailing 1-0 after Lobi Manzoki had headed in a corner in the eighth minute to put Mohammedan ahead.
Behind by a goal at half time, BFC pressed to equalise and found a way through Chhetri in the 82nd minute at the Kishore Bharati Stadium.
The 40-year-old converted a penalty that Pedro Capo won after referee Crystal John pointed to the spot when Manzoki pulled him down inside the box.
