New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team will start their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan on Friday, July 19. The tournament will be held in the T20 format and has gained more importance ahead of the T20 World Cup in October.
Harmanpreet and Co. are the most successful team in the Women’s Asia Cup, winning 17 out of 20 matches. They are also the defending champions of the tournament.
The Women in Blue played a 1-1 draw in the T20I series against South Africa at home. Team India won the last 4 matches out of the five against Pakistan and will look to deliver another dominant performance against the arch-rivals.
The eight teams in the tournament have been divided into two groups. Team India is placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Nepal and the UAE. Hosts Sri Lanka placed in Group B along with Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and the final of the tournament will be played on July 28. The Women in Blue defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the last edition in 2022 and lifted their 7th Asia Cup trophy.
