New Delhi: Indian Railways’ Tatkal ticket booking system serves as a last minute option for travelers who need to book tickets for an emergency. As the name suggests, Tatkal system has been designed for those travellers who immediately need to travel from one station to another. Under this system, a passenger gets confirmed ticket in last minute rush on payment of higher amount. Such tickets can be booked through agents and also on the official website of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCRC). Let’s see how can you book tatkal tickets on IRCTC
How to book Tatkal Ticket on IRCTC
Go to the following link: https://www.irctc.co.in/nget/train-search
First, you will have to register yourself.
After successful registration, you will have login with your User name and Password
After you have logged in, you will have to provide all the information asked e.g. boarding station, destination and class of travel.
After you have mentioned all these information, you will have to select Tatkal option in the Quota dropdown
Then, click on ‘Search’
A new page throws open
The page will display the list of trains available for the selected route and date
To know the entire route and timings, click on the ‘Train Schedule’ link on top right of the screen
After you have selected the preferred train from the list, click on ‘Book Now’
Then, again a new page throws open
You will have to mention all information asked on this new page
The information pertains to passenger details, contact details and payment mode
After you have mentioned all these correct information click on ‘Continue’
On next page, total fare will be displayed. Again, you will have to click on ‘Continue’
Then, select the desired ‘Payment Method’
Click on Pay & Book
After payment is successfully processed, ‘Ticket Confirmation Page’ will appear.
Congratulations! Your ticket is booked!

Maximum of four passengers per PNR can be booked on Tatkal e-tickets
Senior citizen concession is not allowed in Tatkal Quota
Tatkal ticket booking timing starts one day before the date of journey from originating station at 10:00 hours in case of AC class
Tatkal ticket booking timing starts one day before the date of journey from originating station at 11:00 hours in case of Non- AC class
