New Delhi: Continuing with the tradition of the last edition of the Summer Games in Tokyo, the organisers of the Paris Olympics have installed anti-sex beds in the Games Village. The anti-sex beds were introduced at the 2020 Tokyo Games amidst massive criticism but it hasn’t deterred the organisers at the Paris Games.
The 33rd edition of the Summer Games will officially begin on July 26, Friday in the French capital. The opening ceremony in Paris promises to be a one-of-a-kind event spread across the whole city. For the first time in history, athletes will not wave their country flags on the tracks of a stadium. Instead, the contingent will travel on the Seine river on more than 200 boats, that will cross almost all the iconic bridges in Paris.
Ahead of the the glittering ceremony, the athletes started arriving in the Games Village and one of the first things they did was to do an endurance test on ‘anti-sex beds’
What are anti-sex beds?
The customised beds were first introduced at the Tokyo Games. The anti-sex beds are made of cardboard to prevent intimacy between athletes during their stay in the Games village but the athletes have raised questions about their comfort and how the fragile nature of these beds compromises it.
Australian tennis players, Daria Saville and Ellen Perez, tested the new anti-sex beds and shared the videos on social media.
Irish gymnast, Rhys McClenaghan slammed the anti-sex narrative after testing his bed.
The 117-strong Indian contingent will be aiming to bag their best-ever medal haul in Paris, bettering the return of seven medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.
