New Delhi: The 2024 Paris Olympics is all set to get underway on Wednesday, July 24. The 117-strong Indian contingent will be looking to script history at the quadrennial sporting extravaganza as they aim to better their best-ever medals tally from the last edition in Tokyo. India clinched a total of seven medals in Tokyo, including one gold.
Neeraj Chopra won a historic gold medal in men’s javelin throw for India at the Tokyo Games and will be hoping to repeat his feat in Paris this year. Numerous other Indian athletes will be in contention to win medals across sporting disciplines. India’s 117-member contingent consists of 70 male and 47 female athletes, who will be competing in a total of 69 sporting events.
Haryana and Punjab contribute the lion’s share of athletes in the 117-strong Indian contingent. The two states have a total of 42 athletes who will be representing India at the Paris Games. Haryana tops the charts with a total of 24 athletes followed by Punjab, who have 18 players who will be fighting for glory at the Olympics this year.
India have a diverse contingent of athletes from all over the country. While Punjab and Haryana have a total of 42 representations, the 117-member contingent comprises players from 22 states and union territories in total. Shuttler Tanisha Crasto is the only athlete in India’s contingent for the Paris Olympics who was born outside the country. Crasto was born in Dubai.
