Thiruvananthapuram : A major political face-off is brewing in Kerala with the BJP state unit lamenting the Congress government in Karnataka for reportedly failing to engage the rescue and search operations in Shirur in Uttara Karnataka in a timely manner when the landslide took place on July 16th.
BJP state leadership held the protest in Thiruvananthapuram today where all senior leaders including V Muralidharan, state president K Surendran spoke against the alleged lackadaisical approach of the Shirur police officials and the state fire force team in carrying forward the rescue and search operations. The BJP also slammed the Siddaramiah-led Congress government for planning to introduce a job quota bill that will sideline non-Kannadigas in the private job sector.
“As far as Kerala is concerned, it is for the first time that a political party has to hold a protest like this. It was one of the most unfortunate behaviour what we saw from the Congress government in Karnataka. The Karnataka Congress government has been providing only hardships towards the people of Kerala. It has been nine days since Arjun is trapped under the debris of a landslide. The inefficiency of the state government by delaying the rescue and search operation by three days is the main reason for the situation to become this worse. The Karnataka government has been sleeping for the first three days when the tragedy took place. They were only looking to clear the road and nothing else. All the police officials present there were designated for that. They did not make any interventions for searching for the missing person for the first three days”, said BJP state president K Surendran.
“Every experts had said that if the rescue and search team had acted swiftly in the first two days, we could have saved the life of Arjun. But they did not move an inch. For the first two days there were just three bull dozers which were at the site. There were no expert search team at the spot. It was only after the fourth day that they got a reply from the district administration. The family of Arjun who had approached the police station had a very bad experience. There was no one to hear them or talk on behalf of them. KC Venugopal is the second most senior leader after Rahul Gandhi. He is in-charge of Karnataka. He should explain to the people what were the Karnataka government doing there. Did they even sent a police officer to the spot?. Did they even sent an NDRF unit there?”. It took six days to seek the help of the army. Why was this delay?. The Karnataka government headed by Congress has to answer to this”, added K Surendran.
‘Karnataka government trying to sideline non-Kannadigas’
Senior BJP leader and former union minister V Muralidharan condemned the Karnataka government’s decision to reserve quota for the residents of the state in private companies and thereby allegedly sideline job seekers from other states.
“For some time now, the INDIA alliance is been raising a slogan where they try to say that they wanted to protect the constitutional ideas of the country. They have been trying to do so inside and outside the parliament. But the same Karnataka government led by Congress is planning to implement a system which is anti constitutional and anti democratic. In Karnataka, the Congress government was trying to implement 50 percent quota for jobs in private companies. In other jobs they were planning to implement 75 percent quota. The decision is against the unity and integrity of the nation. In 2022 the Andhra High Court had dismissed the AP governments decision to implement a similar quota. A similar ruling was made by the Haryana high court when the government had taken such a stance”, said V Muralidharan.
