Chief Minister Revanth Reddy-led Congress government on Tuesday released the second phase of crop loan waiver at Telangana Legislative Assembly.
The premises of the Assembly was decorated with agricultural produce including vegetables, fruits, grains, dry grass produced by the farmers.
In the second phase, the state government waived crop loans of Rs 1.5 lakh and the cash was deposited into their loan accounts. On July 19, the government waived Rs 1 lakh loans in the first phase.
In the first phase, an overall amount of 6,098 crore was deposited in the accounts of 11.5 lakh farmers. In the second phase, the total amount waived would reach Rs 7,000 crore benefiting 7 lakh farmers.
The three phase program will be completed by August 15 or by the end of August, the government said.
Speaking at the event, CM Reddy said, ‘Warangal Farm Declaration’ in 2022 by Rahul Gandhi promised a dignified life for a farmer and we are happy to fulfill our promise. The previous government was not able to fulfill its promises and skipped its responsibilities towards farmers.”
Many farmers did not receive the money in the first phase due to lack of ration cards, incorrect Aadhar numbers. Help desks have been set up in district offices and mandals to solve issues and receive requests of those whose loans were not waived.
Meanwhile, the government has removed income tax payers, government employees and pensioners from the list of beneficiaries.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Ministers and MLAs were present as chief guests.

Meanwhile, Telangana Assembly Session on Monday ran till 3 am in the morning, in a first. It was a 17-hour marathon session for MLAs, staff with Assembly proceedings beginning at 10 am on July 29 and ending at 3.15 am on July 30, 2024.
