Traffic diversions in view of G20 meet in Srinagar: Check alternate routes

New Delhi: In view of the third G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting, which is scheduled to take place between May 22 and 24 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar, the Union Territory police department has made some changes in the traffic routes. It has issued an advisory related to the restrictions, which will be effective on May 22 and May 23 on some routes. According to the order issued by Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic City Srinagar, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, there will be slight changes in the routes, and the residents need to follow the guidelines to avoid traffic congestion as well as maintain law and order. Amid these changes, let’s take a look at the alternative routes, which can be helpful in reaching the destination without any trouble.

What the advisory reads?

According to the guidelines, movement on the Boulevard Road surrounding the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), the meeting’s location, will be strictly prohibited for the two days, i.e., on Monday and Tuesday.

A large number of delegates from India and abroad are expected to attend the G20 meeting-related events scheduled to take place at the SKICC on Monday and Tuesday, i.e., May 22 and 23.

As per the advisory, there will be no traffic movement between 10:30 am and 10:00 pm on the Boulevard Road from Nehru Park and Gupkar to Kralsangri on Monday.

The traffic movement between 8 am and 10 pm on Tuesday will be restricted on the Boulevard Road-Kralsangri stretch.

Alternate routes

The traffic police stated that people travelling towards Shalimar, Nishat and Harwan can opt for alternative routes like Rainawari, Dalgate and Hazratbal instead of the Boulevard Road axis to avoid congestion and maintain law and order.

In a bid to ensure smooth movement towards Nishat, Shalimar, and Harwan, traffic assistance points have also been set up by the police at Nehru Park, Badyari, Gupkar, Nishat, and Kralsangri.

People heading towards Lal-Chowk from Harwan-Shalimar-Nishat and other adjacent areas have been advised to opt for the Foreshore-Hazratbal route instead of the Nishat-Boulevard Road axis to avoid congestion and reach their respective destinations.

To provide additional support to commuters, traffic assistance points have also been set up at Nishat, Shalimar, Kralsangri, Duck Park and Habbak Crossing.

According to the advisory, commuters have been asked to park their vehicles at a proper parking place instead of parking alongside the roads.
