At least seven persons were feared dead after a vehicle ferrying workers of Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project on Wednesday skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Dacchan village of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Khalil Poswal said that six persons died on the spot and three were injured in an accident at the site of the Dangduru Dam Project.
The reason for the accident is believed to be the overspeeding of the vehicle.
Reports suggest that the accident occurred near the Dangduru power project site in the Dacchan area around 8.35 am when a cruiser vehicle ferrying project workers fell into a deep gorge near the site of the dam project.
The police have launched a rescue operation post the accident.
The number of casualties in the accident is likely to increase as several passengers are said to be critical.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that he has spoken to the District Commissioner Kishtawar Dr Devansh Yadav to provide all the possible help during the rescue operation.
“Just now spoke to DC Kishtwar about the unfortunate road accident at the Dangduru Dam site. 7 persons dead, 1 critically injured. Injured being shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar or GMC Doda as per requirement. All possible help, as required, will be provided,” Singh was quoted as saying by News agency ANI.
