New Delhi: Aman Sehrawat became the youngest Indian Athlete to win a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian wrestler defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz 13-5 in the men’s 57 Kg freestyle wrestling and won the country’s sixth medal in the ongoing Summer Games.
Aman was not considered as one of the medal contenders for India but the wrestler showed great determination to win a bronze. He defeated North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov in the round of 16. In the quarterfinal stage of the event, Aman defeated Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov but lost against Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the semi-final.
After the match, Aman said that his target was to win the gold but now have to settle for a bronze. He also said that his target is to win gold in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“My target was to bring gold for India. But now I have to settle for a bronze. But I am happy for my country. My target for the 2028 Olympics is gold. I didn’t sleep for two nights. I was thinking only about how to fight in the bout.
Aman also said that he didn’t sleep before the match and went for a walk thinking about the fight.
“Yesterday I didn’t even blink my eyes for a minute. Every time I laid down wrestling visuals came to my mind. I even went out of the room and was walking and thinking about the fight. Everything on the court, went as per our plan” Aman said after the match” he added.
Other Indian medal winners at the Summer Games 2024
Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event and opened India’s tally at the Paris Olympics 2024. She won another bronze medal along with Sarabjot Singh in the mixed team 10m air pistol event.
Swapnil Kusale won a bronze medal for the country in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions. The Indian hockey team also won a medal by defeating Spain in the bronze medal match. Neeraj Chopra also won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw final. After Aman’s bronze, India are currently placed 69th in the Olympics 2024 medal table with six medals in total – a silver and five bronze.
