Aiperi Medit Kyzy: Know about Kyrgyzstan wrestler who beat Reetika Hooda in Olympic quarterfinal

New Delhi: Aiperi Medet Kyzy is a Kyrgyzstani freestyle wrestler who was born on 30 March 1999. She defeated India’s Reetika Hooda in the quarter-final and qualified for the semi-final in the women’s 76 Kg wrestling of the Paris Olympics 2024. She studied Graphic Design at the Kyrgyz State Academy of Physical Education and Sports. She started wrestling at the age of 13, inspired by seeing Aisuluu Tynybekova (KGZ) compete at London 2012.

Medet Kyzy became Kyrgyzstan’s first female world champion on any level by winning 2017 junior gold. She won the bronze medal in the 75-kg event at the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Azerbaijan in 2017.

A month later, She also won a bronze medal at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in the women’s 75 Kg event. Medet Kyzy won the bronze medal at the Asian Games 2018 in the women’s 76 Kg event. She won another bronze medal at the 2019 World U23 Wrestling Championship in Budapest.

In 2020, Medet Kyzy won the silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi. In the same year, she also won a bronze medal in the women’s 76 Kg event at the individual Wrestling World Cup in Serbia.

She made her debut at the Tokyo Olympics and was close to a medal. She finished fifth after losing her semi-final match in the 2020 Olympics. She won the gold medal in the women’s 76 Kg event at the 2022 Asian Games. Medet Kyzy won a silver medal in the women’s 76 Kg event at the 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade and earned a quota place for Kyrgyzstan in the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also won the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championship  by defeating China’s Huang Yuanyuan.

Recent achievements

– She Made her Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020 and lost in the semifinal (76kg).

– She became Kyrgyzstan’s first female world champion on any level by winning 2017 junior gold.

– On the podium in the recent World Championships, silver in 2023, gold in Asian Championships

– Gold at the 2022 Asian Games, bronze in 2018.
