New Delhi: Former UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski chose Israel Adesanya over Dricus Du Plessis to win the UFC middleweight championship. In a recent interview, Volkanovski looked super excited about the high-anticipating middleweight bout between Adesanya vs Du Plessis.
“I think Israel Adesanya is gonna put on that type of performance, where he goes out and gets a crazy finish” Volkanovski stated. Volkanovski also added that Adesanya won’t be afraid of any challenges ahead of him and will change his plans according to the fight style of Du Plessis which will allow him to dominate the fight and regain his title.
“Dricus is very awkward, unorthodox and he’s got awkward pressure, which is very hard for people to deal with, and we’ve seen awkward pressure from Strickland give Izzy problems, but that doesn’t happen to Izzy twice,” Volkanovski added
Adesanya has been totally out of action for more than a year because of his last loss against Sean Strickland where he lost his title which no one thought of he is also fighting regularly in the UFC that why he took a break from the sport.
Adesanya was in a similar position when he lost to current Light heavyweight Champion Alex Periera in UFC 281 but came back stronger and knocked out Pereira in the next fight and regained his title. It will be one of the biggest matches in Adesanya’s career.
Du Plessis won the UFC middleweight title at UFC 297 where he defeated Strickland and shocked everyone by becoming the first African to win a UFC Championship. He defeated Strickland by split decision.
