New Delhi: Kamindu Mendis made a strong entry into the playing XI, replacing Ehsan Malinga ahead of the high-pressure game against Chennai Super Kings. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands, impressing with both his bowling and fielding.
The talented ambidextrous spinner, who can bowl both left-arm and right-arm orthodox spin, was brought into the attack right after the powerplay in the 8th over. He made an immediate impact by conceding just 3 runs in his first over. In his second over, he delivered a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Ravindra Jadeja.
When Mendis came on to bowl his third over, Dewald Brevis, known for his explosive hitting, was well set at the crease. Brevis took on Mendis and smashed him for three massive sixes, shifting the momentum in CSK’s favour. In the next over, Brevis continued his ball striking, hitting Harshal Patel for another six over the covers.
On the very next delivery, Patel bowled a quick and full ball outside off stump. Brevis struck it powerfully towards long-off, and it looked certain to be another six. But Kamindu Mendis had other plans. Showing his athleticism and ambidextrous skills once again, he made a full-length dive and took a stunning two-handed catch to end Brevis’s dangerous innings.

At that point, CSK were 114 for 5 and still in the game with Shivam Dube also at the crease. However, Brevis’s dismissal resulted in a collapse. CSK were eventually bowled out for 154 in 19.5 overs, unable to bat the full quota of 20 overs.
Pat Cummins’ decision to bowl first and include Kamindu Mendis in the playing XI turned out to be a game-changing move. In a do-or-die match for both teams, restricting CSK to just 154 gave SRH a strong advantage at the halfway mark.
CSK managed 154 runs against SRH in the Indian Premier League 2025 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
