New Delhi: It was a life-changing day for Sachin Tanwar, who became the most expensive player on Day 1 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2024 auction in Mumbai. The 25-year-old player was sold to Tamil Thalaivas for an eyewatering Rs 2.15 crores to become the most expensive signing of this season so far.
In the process, Tanwar also became the second most expensive Indian player in PKL history after seasoned raider Pawan Sehrawat.
Telugu Titans, UP Yoddhas, Gujarat Giants and Thailvas engaged in a massive bidding war for Tanwar but in the end, others pulled out of the race to clear the path of Thailvas.
Besides, Sachin, seven more players joined the Crorepati club. A record number of players joined the 1 crore club including Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh, Guman Singh, Pawan Sehrawat, Bharat, Maninder Singh, Ajinkya Pawar and Sunil Kumar.
‘Mummy ka sapna poora ho gaya’
Sachin was overjoyed after becoming the most expensive player in the PKL 2024 auction. On being asked about what will he do with the money, Sachin said that he would invest it in preparing himself for the upcoming season. He thanked the Thailvas for showing faith in him and vowed to repay it with his performances. He got emotional and said that finally, her mother’s dream had come true.
Sachin’s PKL journey
Born in Bandhbar village of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan in 1999, Sachin made his debut in PKL season 5. He made his name at the Gujarat Giants and later moved to Patna Pirates. After spending three seasons with Patna Pirates, Sachin decided to enter the auction on the advice of his mother. According to the star player, his mother wanted him to reach greater heights.
Sachin was part of the Indian team that won the gold at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
