New Delhi: Pacer Mohammed Siraj and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will skip the first round of Duleep Trophy matches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Tuesday. While Siraj is miss the games due to illness, Jadeja has been allowed to be on an extended break.
Their absence forced the BCCI to make some changes to the participating squads that will compete from September 5-8 in the first round in which two matches will be held.
The tournament begins with Shubman Gill-led India A take on the Abhimanyu Easwaran captained India B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In the second match, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s India C face Shreyas lyer-skippered India D at the at the Rural Development Trust Stadium A in Ananthapur.
Right arm pacer Siraj was part of India’s white-ball series in Sri Lanka. He and fellow speedster Umran Malik have both been ruled out with Navdeep Saini and Gaurav Yadav named as replacements, respectively.
“Both Siraj and Malik are suffering from an illness and are not expected to be fit in time for their Duleep Trophy fixtures. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also been released from the Team B squad,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Jadeja has not returned to action since helping India beat South Africa in the in the T20 World Cup final in June, after which he was rested from the in Sri Lanka series.
Madhya Pradesh-born Yadav, 32, was the second highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy last season with 41 wickets in seven matches for Pondicherry.
