New Delhi: There’s still decent uncertainty around the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 but that didn’t bar Gujarat Titans (GT) from resuming their business. As per some reports, the team has continued training despite the tournament being suspended for a week on Friday last week owing to the increasing cross-border conflict between India and Pakistan.

Taking the first step toward normalising the situation, the Shubman Gill-led side had a long nets session on Sunday evening, according to a Cricbuzz report. The GT net session went on for over three hours, starting around 5:30 pm and lasting till about 9:00 pm, as confirmed by GT and Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) to the cricket website. Kagiso Rabada and Sherfane Rutherford took part in the training alongside Gill and Mohammed Siraj.

After the announcement of the league’s suspension came from the BCCI, several overseas players and coaching staff left India in the next 24 hours. The current table topper, GT, was the only team that did not disband totally, as only Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee returned home to England and South Africa, respectively. A majority of their players and support staff members stayed back in Ahmedabad to train at the Narendra Modi Stadium, their home ground.

A ceasefire was announced on Saturday evening, after which BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the board would duly announce the date of IPL 2025’s restart once it has consulted all the stakeholders and the concerned government authorities.

GT’s IPL 2025 campaign

GT currently leads the 10-team pack in the points table. They have claimed eight wins in 11 games, just like Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but sit with a better net run rate. Out of the remaining three fixtures, they were to play two at home – against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the other against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi.

In the list of the highest run-scorers of the current season, both their openers, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, are second and third, respectively. Both have stacked over 500 runs and are just behind Suryakumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians (MI). They have their fast bowler Prasidh Krishna leading the Purple Cap race with 20 wickets.

With most of the overseas players having left their respective IPL teams, GT are the only ones that didn’t disband completely as only two of their foreign players returned home.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
