New Delhi: Manchester United have agreed to a deal with a £42.9m fee for Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte with Paris Saint-Germain. The deal will also have £8.46m in additional payment that will depend on Ugarte’s performance. Currently, he is travelling to Manchester for a medical to complete the final formalities of his move to United. United were initially reluctant to meet the initial price PSG had asked for but were always exploring a deal for the 23-year-old, and the move was never completely written off.

The move comes as midfielder Scott McTominay’s proposed £25.37m move to the Serie A club Napoli is being agreed upon as well. McTominay is now set to travel to Italy for his medical. The media has reported that manager Erik Ten Hag wasn’t guaranteeing the midfielder a regular start.
Ugarte was being linked with United throughout the summer after spending just one year with the French club. PSG have negotiated a 10% sell-on clause for Ugarte, as both sides are profiting from the deal. United are pleased with the Ugarte deal and have rated him as one of the best young midfielders right now. His skills were on full display during Uruguay’s Copa America campaign this year, and he was named the man of the tournament.
For Luis Enrique’s PSG, he played 37 games in all competitions. The campaign saw PSG win the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions. In his debut campaign, he had made just 21 league starts. Ugarte was a regular feature in the Champions League group stage for PSG and started five of the six games. However, he was left out of the knockout stage games. He will be the fifth signing for Manchester this season, including Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, Leny Yoro from Lille Noussaur Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.
