DFB-Pokal 2024/25: Stuttgart thrash Preußen Münster 5-0, to progress through

New Delhi: In the DFB Cup first round, VfB Stuttgart more than handled the job of overcoming Preußen Münster, a new team in the second level. The visitors eventually won 5-0, and Stiller put them on the road to win early on. In the 0-1 loss to Kaiserslautern, Sascha Hildmann started HSV loanee Nemeth in the cup, who was starting for Münster for the first time, while Amenyido took the striker’s spot. Furthermore, Paetow, Makridis, and Behrens—the backup goalkeeper—were given the opportunity to make their SCP jersey debuts.

Playing against the second division newcomers, who had only managed one point from their opening three games of the season, VfB got off to a flawless start. Sebastian Hoeneß’s squad soon had their first meaningful opportunity through Demirovic, and after a brief period of getting to know one another, they gained the lead with the next corner. Despite Behrens’s initial excellent stop against Rieder, Stiller maintained his composure and slotted home during the subsequent chaos.

Soon after the first goal, the second one came in the 15th minute of the game as Führich dashed off, leaving Stiller to receive a pass. He smacks it into the area, where the easy assignment for an unmarked Demirovic is to put a header past Behrens. 2-0, and it was already looking like Stuttgart put their goot on Munster’s neck.

It was the 35th minute when Demirovic curled in a cross from the left, and Stenzel was left all alone on the edge of the six-yard box to head in Stuttgart’s third goal. Münster’s defense was completely overwhelmed as the Bundesliga 2 team were left in a very nasty situation. Woltemade scored his debut goal in a competitive match for his new team with a thundering finish after Stuttgart shifted into overdrive and expanded their lead to 4-0. To put the icing on the cake and add to the miseries of Munster’s fans, Karazor found the corner as he put away the penalty to score the fifth for last year’s Bundesliga runners up.
