Mbappe dismisses pressure of being Ronaldo’s successor at Real Madrid after breaking goal drought

New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe has been the talk of the football world after ending his three-game goal drought in La Liga. Following his breakthrough performance, where he scored in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Betis, comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo have resurfaced. However, Mbappe has made it clear that he feels no pressure to be viewed as the successor to the Real Madrid legend.

The 39-year-old is one of the game’s bonafide legends. He has spent nine highly successful seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu, where he left an indelible mark on the club’s history. The 39-year-old Portuguese forward scored a staggering 450 goals in 438 appearances for Los Blancos between 2009 and 2018, part of an overall tally of 899 goals for club and country.

Mbappe, widely regarded as one of the best young strikers in the game today, has also carved out an impressive scoring record. Before his move to Real Madrid this summer, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner scored 256 goals for Paris Saint-Germain and nearly 50 goals for the French national team.

Despite a slow start to his Real Madrid career, arriving on a free transfer, Mbappe is beginning to find his rhythm at the Bernabéu. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has finally made a goalscoring debut in the 2-0 win over Real Betis. Following the win, Madrid Xtra tweeted, that Mbappe downplayed the comparisons to Ronaldo, stating, “Cristiano is my idol, but I don’t think about being the pressure of being his successor. I want to be Kylian, the only pressure I want is about me and the team.”

By far the 25-year-old has scored three goals in five games for Real Madrid across all competitions while his idol Cristiano Ronaldo has scored four times and assisted twice in four appearances for Al-Nassr.

Kylian Mbappe has elicited comparisons with his idol multiple times because of his prolific scoring abilities. He has never made it a secret that Real Madrid is his dream club and Ronaldo was his idol while growing up. Before his move to the club Kylian Mbappe even professed his admiration for Ronaldo calling him a legend and admitted that the two stay in touch.

While the two have never played together for the same team Mbappe has now made a move to Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid and is beginning to find his feet at the Standford Bernabeu. As the new season progresses, all eyes will be on Mbappe to see how he continues to adapt to life at Real Madrid. Although the shadow of Ronaldo’s legacy looms large, Mbappe’s focus on his own journey suggests that he’s more than ready to create his own path.

Kylian Mbappe feels that he would like to sketch out his own identity rather than being the ‘next’ Ronaldo for Real Madrid. Mbappe shines with 3 goals in 5 games so far.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
