New Delhi: India recorded their best-ever medal haul in a single edition of the Paralympics as their medals tally reached 20 at the ongoing Paris Games on Tuesday. India added a total of 5 medals, including 2 silver to their tally on Day 6 at the Paris Paralympics. The Indian para-athletes will look to add to the country’s medals tally on Day 7 of the Games on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Deepthi Jeevanji won India’s first medal of the day after clinching bronze in the women’s 400m T20 race. Ajeet Singh and Sundar Gurjar then won a silver and a bronze medal respectively in the men’s javelin throw F46 final before Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu secured silver and bronze respectively in the men’s high jump T63 category.
Indian para-athletes will be in action across multiple sporting disciplines on Day 7 of the Paris Paralympics and will be in contention to win multiple medals. The trio of Sachin Khilari, Rohit Kumar and Mohammed Yasser will compete in the men’s shot put F46 final while Harvinder Singh will look to win a medal in the men’s individual recurve open archery.
Para table tennis player Bhavina Patel, who won a silver medal in the last edition in Tokyo will also be seen in action on Wednesday. She will begin her campaign in the women’s singles table tennis quarter-finals. Arshad Shaik and Jyoti Gaderiya will be in contention to win medals in para-cycling.
Arshad will take part in the men’s C2 individual event while Jyoti will be in action in the women’s C1-3 individual event. Meanwhile, Amisha Rawat will compete in the final of the women’s shot put F46 event and Parmjeet Kaur will look to finish on the podium in the para powerlifting men’s up to 49kg final. Powerlifter Sakina Khatun will be in action in the women’s up to 45kg final.
