A cult figure at Anfield was released after eight seasons as the 33-year-old missed most of the 2023-24 season because of an ACL injury.  Matip helped the club win the Premier League and the Champions League under Klopp after joining as a free transfer from Schalke. A move to either the MLS or the Saudi Pro League look more realistic for the central midfielder rather than the Premier League.
