Top LGBTQ+ athletes to watch out for at Paris Olympics 2024

New Delhi: More than 170+ LGBTQ+ athletes are taking part in the Paris Olympics 2024, with a record number of male Olympians participating in the Summer Games.

In the Tokyo Olympics, at least 186 LGBTQ+ athletes participated in the games. For this year’s Olympics, numbers have grown since the list was first published reflecting the growing acceptance in the sports world.

This year’s LGBTQ+ athletes list started at 144 but reached to 175 on the day of the opening ceremony with the majority of athletes on the list being women.

Here are the three LGBTQ+ athletes to watch out for in the Paris Olympics

1) Nikki Hiltz
The 29-year-old from California athlete qualified for the Paris Olympics after running 1500 meters in 3 minutes and 55 seconds. The history-making run has solidified Hiltz’s position on the global stage. The transgender and nonbinary runner has reached in Paris to compete among the World’s top athletes.

2) Cindy Ngamba
The 26-year-old boxer escaped from Cameroon at the age of 11 and is on the verge of creating history at the Paris Olympics 2024. Cindy has a chance to become the first refugee athlete to win an Olympic medal. She has been living in the UK for the last 15 years. She found a supportive community with the GB Boxing team and won the three English national championships. She became the first refugee boxer to qualify for the Olympic Games, making history ahead of the Paris Olympics.

3) Daniel Jervis
Dan Jervis is set to compete once again for Team GB in the Paris Olympics 2024 after his 1500m freestyle win in the British Swimming Championships in London. Jervis who publicly came out in June 2022 was placed fifth in the Tokyo Olympics.

Jervis struggled for a moment after coming out but he looked to fellow out gay swimmer Michael Gunning for support. Jervis is excited about the Paris Olympics and said he just wanted to enjoy the experience.
