New Delhi: England all-rounder Moeen Ali announced his retirement from international cricket on Monday, drawing curtains on an eventful career. Moeen last played for England in the T20 World Cup earlier this year and said it was the ‘right time’ for him to part ways from international cricket considering the national team appeared to have already moved on from him.
Moeen, who made his international debut for England in 2014, is one of the finest all-rounders of the current generation. Moeen played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is for England, amassing 6,678 runs across formats and picking up an impressive 366 wickets in international cricket.
While he was a swashbuckling batter, known for his attacking style in white-ball cricket, Moeen was even better with the ball for England in all formats. Moeen troubled some of the best batters around the world with the ball during his international career, including Team India great Virat Kohli. Moeen dismissed Kohli 10 times in 41 meetings between the duo in international cricket.

However, the England all-rounder’s most memorable dismissal for the Team India star was arguably in the Chennai Test between India and England in February 2021. Moeen bowled a dream delivery to clean up Kohli on a 5-ball duck, leaving him clueless. The dismissal took place during India’s first innings of the Test match.
It was an off-spinner from Moeen which drifted sharply and the ball sneaked in through the gap between Kohli’s bat and pads to leave him bamboozled. Kohli couldn’t believe the way he was beaten and had to wait for a few seconds to process his dismissal before leaving his crease as his reaction said it all.
