Breaking down India’s record-breaking haul of 29 medals at Paris 2024 Paralympics

New Delhi: India’s para-athletes produced a record-breaking performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, returning home with a rich haul of 29 medals. India’s Paris campaign was nothing short of remarkable with both proven performers living up to expectations and up-and-coming talents emerging as the new heroes at the big stage.

India obliterated the previous-best tally of 19 medals at the Tokyo Games following a defining display that will remain fresh in the memories of Indian fans for years to come.

The Indian contingent also broke the record for most gold medals in a single edition, surpassing the five they won in Tokyo after clinching seven in Paris.

Since making its presence felt in the Rio 2016 Paralympics edition, where India won four medals, the country’s rise has been meteoric and far from gradual with Tokyo yielding 19 medals three years ago and Paris surpassing that mark with ease.

What’s more heartning and encouraging is the fact that several medal-winning performances were record efforts and personal bests. This shows the significant progress Indian Paralympians have made in the last eight years.

While India are a million miles away from achieving a powerhouse status at the Olympic level, the country’s Paralympains have emerged as a force to be reckoned at the biggest stage.

Courtesy of seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals, India finished in the 18th spot above the likes of Turkey, South Korea and Belgium.
