New Delhi: India were given a record seventh gold medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024, courtesy of javelin star Navdeep Singh, whose personal best effort of 47.32 metres landed him on the top of the podium, but after a brawl. Navdeep had actually won a silver in the men’s javelin throw F41 final but got an upgrade when Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayah was disqualified due to “unsportsmanlike conduct”.
After winning the historic gold for India, Navdeep was pumped as shown in the viral video of his celebration. He vent out all his aggression on the javelin field and once calmed down, had a hilarious conversation with his coach. In another that has gone viral on the internet, Navdeep is heard revealing the conversation as he asked his coach to swear on his mother when asked about the distance he hit in first valid attempt.
Navdeep had started with a foul in the final event and hit 46.39 metres in the second attempt. He went to his coach to ask how much distance he hit and was left awestruck when the coach revealed he breached 46 metres. “Khao maa kasam (swear on your mother),” Navdeep said to his coach to believe that he wasn’t lying and telling the truth.
