New Delhi: Controversies and Drama continue to unfold in Pakistan cricket as the former international player Basit Ali has made some explosive allegations against ex-captain Shoaib Malik. He accused Malik of deliberately losing a match during his playing days.
Basit also slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for appointing Malik as the mentor of Stallions which is led by Mohammed Haris in the Champions One-Day Cup. This comes after Pakistan’s recent 2-0 Test series loss against Bangladesh at home last month, marking their first-ever series loss against the Bangla Tigers.
Pakistan cricket already faced heavy criticism after the Test series defeat and with these new allegations against a former captain, there seems to be no end to controversies in Pakistan cricket fraternity. During the 2005 National T20 Cup game, Sialkot Stallions skipper Shoaib Malik made a controversial decision due to which his team lost the match against Karachi Zebras.
Stallions needed just 25 runs in the last four overs when Malik was on the crease but he didn’t put enough effort to take his team over the line and they lost the match by four runs. The strange conclusion of the match raised many eyebrows but Malik in the post-match interview said that he lost the match deliberately as a protest against the decision that disadvantaged his team Sialkot Stallions in the league.
‘Those who lost the match deliberately, should not mentor any team’: Basit Ali
Ali said that those who admitted they deliberately lost the match should not mentor any team and if anyone wants evidence he will give it.
“Those people who cannot think about the country, should not be appointed. Those who have admitted that they deliberately lost a match, should not be the mentor. If you want evidence I will give it. Ramiz Raja Saheb interviewed Shoaib Malik. What did he say?” Ali said on his official YouTube channel.
