New Delhi: After Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered their second defeat in a row in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen confronting skipper Rishabh Pant again on the field. Goenka has a reputation of asking some tough questions to the captains of his team as previously in the last season well, former skipper KL Rahul had to face the wrath of the owner after team’s defeat.
On Tuesday evening at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow, same scene was recreated after Super Giants suffered a 8-wicket loss against Punjab. Pant was subjected to same confrontation after the team’s loss against Delhi Capitals in their opening match of the season. Lucknow then bounced back in the second game with a victory but slumped to a loss against Punjab on Tuesday. Goenka again confronted Pant and was seen pointing a finger at the captain during their conversation which triggered a social media storm.

Pant was roped in as the skipper of Super Giants for a massive price of Rs 27 crore becoming the most expensive buy in the cash-rich league ever. But the performance of the wicketkeeper-batter as a captain and batter has not been up to the mark in the first few contests in IPL 2025. Post the match, Pant admitted that the team was about 20-25 runs short against Punjab which cost them the match.
‘It (the total) wasn’t enough, we were 20-25 runs short, but that’s part and parcel of the game. Still assessing the conditions at our home ground. It’s always going to be difficult to get a big total when you lose early wickets, but each and every player is trying hard to take the game forward’, the skipper said.
The Super Giants next face Mumbai Indians at the same venue on April 4, Friday.
