New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) won’t provide any sort of daily allowances to the women cricketers reporting for the national camps, a decision which has left many disappointed and upset. A PCB official brought forth the development and also gave out the reason for the same but the decision still felt unjust to the players who had assembled for the upcoming South Africa series.
“The players are not being given daily allowances because the board is now providing them accommodation and three full meals during the day,” an official of PCB said as quoted by PTI. The players who are currently attending the training camp in Multan for the home series against the South Africa women’s team feel that the decision was unjust considering they had all assembled from different parts of the nation.
The Proteas women’s team has already begun their preparations for the series after they reached Multan. The white-ball series starts on September 17 and is looked up as a preparatory tune-up for the ICC Women’s T20 Cup World Cup in UAE next month.
PCB’s other expenditures
Here comes the interesting part – the players of the Pakistan men’s team get offers of options like two full meals in a day along with accommodation and a daily allowance. A source, well versed with the development, said that it was until recently the board used to provide the allowance to the women players.
The decision to bring a change in the policy comes at a time when the board is spending millions on several other projects including – 5 million rupees monthly salaries on five mentors of the teams that are taking part in the ongoing Champions Cup in Faisalabad. The board is also spending around 12.8 billion on the renovation of the stadiums ahead of the Champions Trophy next year in February.
“What difference of a few lakh rupees will make to the board is anybody’s guess, but it has the potential to create discontent in women’s cricket,” a former Pakistan player was quoted as saying.
The PCB official said that when the women cricketers will go into the series, they will get the daily allowances. The women players still await the board’s announcement on their central contracts for the fiscal year which has been delayed for more than a month now. The board handed central contracts to 19 players last year.
