New Delhi: India head coach Gautam Gambhir and Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy are among people from the Indian sporting community that commented on India’s co-ordinated attack on terrorists camp in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

India’s armed forces conducted a series of attacks on nine locations in the early hours on May 7, reportedly killing around 100 terrorists.

The areas targeted for included Muridke and Bahawalpur — places known to be base of terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The strikes were carried out as India’s retaliatory response to terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22 that killed 26 people, including 25 Indians and one Nepali national.

“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Gambhir, former batter turned commentator Aakash Chopra and former spinner Pragyan Ojha lauded the Indian forces for their service. Chopra, Ojha and Chakravarthy shared the photo of ‘Operation Sindoor’ that has been released on Instagram.

After the operation, the Indian Army released a video message on social media platform X, saying: “Justice is served.”

A Pakistan Army spokesperson claimed that India targeted six different locations and carried out 24 attacks killing atleast eight Pakistani civilians, 33 injured. A three-year-old kid and two women among those who were killed.

Meanwhile, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said in a statement:

“The secretary-general is very concerned about the Indian military operations across the Line of Control and international border.

“He calls for maximum military restraint from both countries. The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan.”
