New Delhi: Thursday will mark the beginning of a new Test season for the Indian cricket team under the guidance of a new head coach Gautam Gambhir. Led by Rohit Sharma, Team India is all geared up to don the Test whites again after a gap of almost six months, since they last thrashed the mighty English side in the five-game series at home. The hosts begin the new chapter in red-ball cricket by hosting Bangladesh for a two-match Test series starting September 19 in Chennai.
India’s home record in the longest format of game is unparalleled as it is no secret that they are one of the toughest sides to beat in Tests on their turf. This is no hypothetical saying as there are numbers and statistics which back this fact to the fullest. Team India have been undefeated in Tests at home since last 12 years which makes them one of the toughest sides to play against.
When did India last lose a Test series at home?
The last time India went down in a Test series at home was back in the year 2012 against England. Interestingly, Indian team’s last home Test defeat and home Test win is against the same team. Since 2012, India have played 15 Test series and two standalone Test matches against Bangladesh and Afghanistan which resulted in wins for the Indians.
Meanwhile, in the 15 Test series’, the dominant Indian team has been undefeated, emerging victorious in 39 Test matches, drawing 7 and losing just 4. Meanwhile, India have a history of dominating the Bangla Tigers when it comes to the red-ball cricket as they have been undefeated so far. In as many as 13 Test matches between both the nations, India have secured victories in 11 while two have ended in a draw, showcasing India’s immense success.
India succeeds or Bangladesh dents?
Will India be able to continue their dominance in the Test format at home or will Bangladesh be able to dent India’s mighty record is a question that had a one line answer till the time the Bangla Tigers were quiet in their den. Their recent success against Pakistan, where they thrashed the Men in Green 2-0 in a Test series at home is a testament to their recent terrific form and confidence.
While nothing significant has changed in the last few months that the dominant Indian team needs to careful of, but the intent with which the Bangladesh side has been playing recently is something that should be taken carefully. While Pakistan and India are not part of a single page when it comes to the on-field performances and records recently but an emerging side like Bangladesh cannot either be taken lightly.
