New Delhi: Ace New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel paid a visit to his relatives in Mumbai after his stupendous role in the historic series whitewash against India recently. Born and brought up in the western suburb of Jogeshwari area in Mumbai, the Kiwi spinner shares a close bond with the city from his childhood.
According to an exclusive report published in the Free Press Journal, the superlative New Zealand cricketer decided to keep his visit to the famous locality of Dongri a low-key affair. For the player, it was a delightful experience paying a visit to his family and close friends and relive the memories of the childhood, when he used to play on the streets of the vibrant locality.
Ajaz reconnects with family often
The report further mentions that the ace cricketer makes it a point to reconnect with his family members whenever his professional duties permit him to visit the city. Patel lived in Mumbai till the age of 8 before his family migrated to New Zealand so he does not have enough memories of the city but they are still adequate to keep him attached to where he actually belongs. Although he has gained tremendous success in the cricketing arena, after making his debut in 2018, but has not forgotten his roots.
In the Test match against India at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, Ajaz made a mark as he achieved a remarkable feat of claiming all the 10 wickets in in a single innings, becoming only the third bowler to attain this record in the longest format of the game.
The spinner did not stop here as he followed it up with clinching 11 wickets in total in the third and final Test match, which got him the Man of the Match award and powered the Black Caps to a memorable series win.
