New Delhi: The Indian Railways has revised rules for waiting list tickets in a move that is likely to affect a major chunk of train passengers. Waiting list tickets enable passengers to undertake a train journey even if they do not have a reserved seat. However, the new rules may affect passengers if they are not cautious.
The Indian Railways offers passengers an option to book train tickets online as well as offline. The difference between online and offline waiting tickets is that tickets booked online get cancelled automatically., However, waiting rickets booked offline do not get cancelled automatically.
Waiting list ticket rules
The Indian Railways will now penalise waitlisted ticket passengers who have boarded a train’s reserved coach. Such train passengers will be penalised Rs 440 and the TT may even deboard the passenger at the next station, according to the Indian Railways’ new rule.
🚨 Only those passengers who have confirmed tickets should travel in sleeper and AC classes of trains. If you travel with a waiting ticket, you will have to get down at the next station with a penalty.

However, waitlisted ticket passengers are allowed to travel in the general coach without any penalty. To be sure, this is not a new rule, since waitlisted passengers are not allowed to board reserved train coaches. However, the new penalty and deboarding rule is expected to ensure the enforcement of this rule.
This means that waitlisted train travellers who booked their tickets for AC or sleeper coaches will not be able to board these coaches with their tickets. They must only consider travelling in a general coach with their waitlisted coaches. According to IRCTC, names of passengers who were not included in the final chart will not be allowed to board the train.
E-ticket fares for waitlisted passengers will be refunded automatically. Physically booked tickets can be surrendered at the counter.
The Indian Railways has altered the rules for waitlisted tickets. Passengers must take note to avoid paying extra penalty. Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
