New Delhi: The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for Universal Account Number (UAN) activation and linking bank accounts with Aadhaar under the Employment Linked Initiative (ELI) scheme. The process can be completed by January 15, 2025.
It is mandatory for employees who wish to claim the monetary benefits of the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme to activate UAN and seeding of an Aadhaar to a bank account. The earlier deadline for completion of the process was December 15, 2024. The EPFO has now issued a circular dated December 20 to announce the extension of the deadline to January 15.
The UAN is a 12-digit unique number assigned to every EPF member. The UAN is generated and allotted by the EPFO and authenticated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. The UAN number of an employee never changes, irrespective of the number of job changes.
How to activate UAN online
Visit UAN portal
Click on ‘Activate UAN’ under the ‘Important Links’ option
Next step is to select the UAN option and submit UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, mobile number
Enter Captcha
Click on the consent box
Click on the ‘Get Authorisation Pin’ button
The applicant’s details will be displayed on a new screen which should be crosschecked
Click on the ‘I Agree’ checkbox
The applicant has to enter the four-digit OTP and click on ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.
After the OTP is verified, the UAN will be activated.
Meanwhile, the EPFO has also given the ‘final opportunity’ till January 31, 2025 to Employers to upload wage details etc. regarding over 3.1 lakh pending applications for Pension on Higher Wages.
“A final opportunity is being given to the employers till 31.01.2025 to ensure that employers process and upload these pending Applications for Validation of Option / Joint Options. Employers are also requested to submit replies/update the information by 15.01.2025, in over 4.66 Lakh cases where EPFO has sought additional information/ clarification in respect of applications that have been received and examined by EPFO,” Ministry of Labour & Employment stated in its release.
