Chahal sends strong message to selectors with another 9-wicket-haul in English County

Northampton (England): Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal sent a strong message to the selectors with another magnificent performance in the English County Championship. Chahal weaved his magic to bag a five-wicket haul and a nine-wicket match haul in his second successive match for Northamptonshire. His superb spell helped the Northants defeat Leicestershire by nine wickets.

Chahal continued his superb form and followed up on his 4/82 in the first innings with second innings figures of 5/134. His nine-wicket match haul helped Northants bowl out Leicestershire for 316 to set an easy target of 137 in the Division Two County Championship.

The home side raced to win in 30.3 overs, losing just the wicket of Gus Miller (11).

Skipper Luke Procter (68 not out) and George Bartlett (54 not out) powered the home side to an easy victory.

Chahal works his magic, again!

Chahal was instrumental in breaking Leicestershire’s resistance by running through their middle and lower order.

He got rid of key players, including skipper Lewis Hill (14) and Liam Trevaskis (2) claimed the prized wicket of Scott Currie, who played a fighting knock of 120. His wicket left Leicestershire reeling at 303/9.

Three overs later Saif Zaib (2/61) dismissed Louis Kimber to wrap up the match.

Chahal, who has been out of favour in red-ball cricket for the Indian national team, is doing his faint chances no harm. Though, in the presence of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, Chahal’s chances to feature in a Test squad is next to impossible.

In the previous County match, Chahal bagged 5/45 and 4/45 in Northants’ 133-run victory over Derbyshire.
