Leverkusen were patient and never looked too worked up or out of control of the game. They broke the stalemate immediately after the break, with Kristin Kogel scoring the opening goal. This ignited a brilliant fightback from Leverkusen, with the second goal coming off Janou Levels’s foot in just the next ten minutes. From there on, Essen had really on the back foot.
Leverkusen’s defence wasn’t tested much during the second half as they kept pressing into the opposition’s half, making scoring nearly impossible for Essen as Roberto Patzold’s time kept the gained momentum on their side. The game, though headed to extra time, Leverkusen were sitting in the driver’s seat.
With Leverkusen’s win, both teams now have four wins against the other, and five draws have been played between themselves. Leverkusen have continued the form they have been in this season, scoring 12 goals in their last five matches. Their only worry of conceding most goals in the penalties weren’t ever a trouble to them, and they would go home pleased with their overall performance.
