Virat Kohli slips out of top 10 in Test rankings; placed below Pakistan’s Babar Azam

New Delhi: A pair of low scores in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, has cost Virat Kohli five places in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters. Kohli’s scores of 6 and 17 in the opening match of the two-Test series led to his downfall in the batting chart. Kohli misfired with the bat and could only muster 23 runs across two innings and has dropped out of the top 10 to the 12th spot. He now sits even below Pakistan batter Babar Azam who is placed in 11th position.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also slipped five places to 10th in the latest rankings. Rohit’s twin failures (6 and 5) in Chennai saw him drop to 10th in the batting rankings.

Pant makes blockbuster re-entry in top 10

Meanwhile, Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, who marked his Test return with a magnificent century, made a blockbuster re-entry in the top 10. Pant is now placed at sixth following his superb ton in the second innings of India’s victory over Bangladesh in Chennai. Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up a rung to fifth place following his half-century in the first essay.

Pant’s 731 rating points are only bettered by his Indian compatriot Jaiswal (751). Rohit, meanwhile, keeps a top-ten spot, but his rating points dipped to 716.

In the bowling chart, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya moved five spots into eighth after a nine-wicket match haul against New Zealand in the first Test at Galle.

India maintained a stranglehold on the top two positions in the bowling rankings. Ravichandran Ashwin solidified his top spot with a six-wicket haul while Jasprit Bumrah also retained his second place. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja moved up a place to sixth spot.

In the Test all-rounder’s rankings, Jadeja (1) and Ashwin (2) continue to reign supreme.

Ashwin and Jadeja were key to India’s victory in the first Test in Chennai. After stitching together a 199-run partnership in the first innings, both players combined with the ball in the second innings to wrap up an impressive win.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma slipped five places in the latest ICC Test rankings. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant made a blockbuster re-entry into the top 10 following a superb comeback-century in Chennai Test.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
