New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is gearing up to pass the budget for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 this week. Reports suggest that the budget for the eight-team tournament will be presented to the ICC board for approval at the ICC’s annual conference, which starts on Friday (July 19) in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the financial plan for the Champions Trophy will go through the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee (F & CA) before it is approved by the ICC board. BCCI secretary Jay Shah is the head of the F & CA committee, which is scheduled to meet on July 21, just a day before the board meeting. It is also reported that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi will also be present at the meeting.
ICC’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ankur Khanna was in Lahore for three days last month to prepare the budget along with PCB’s CFO Javed Murtuza. The task here was to outlay the financial plan for the Champions Trophy 2025, which is likely to be conducted between February and March next year in Pakistan.
In the budget draft, Lahore (Gadaffi Stadium), Karachi (National Stadium), and Rawalpindi (Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium) are the three venues decided for the short tournament, lasting for just more than a fortnight.

Regardless of the budget draft, the decision of the Indian team’s participation will be cleared in the meeting this weekend. India’s consistent demand to move their matches out of Pakistan will be focused as the BCCI claims that their government is not in the favour of sending a team to the neighbouring nation with whom they share an unhealthy relations over a decade.
It was the similar reason why the BCCI influenced the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to host the Asia Cup 2023 in a hybrid format with all the Indian team matches being played in Sri Lanka instead of Pakistan last year.
