Fastest to 50, 100, 150, 200: India unleash beast mode in Kanpur Test

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team displayed exceptional batting as they strode out to bat in a rain-curtailed Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday. It was the fourth day of the game after the previous two days were washed out and Team India eclipsed their own world record of scoring the fastest team 100 and eventually a 150 as well in their first innings of the Test.

After Bangladesh were long stuck at 107/3 in 35 overs, having scored it on Day 1, the game was put at a halt for the complete next two days and could take off on the fourth day once Kanpur saw the bright sun out of the dark clouds. Bangladesh breached the 200-run mark on the back of Mominul Haque who held his end firm since the first day and scored an unbeaten 107. Jasprit Bumrah starred as he took three wickets to dismantle the Bangla Tigers.

The moment India walked out to bat with Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 off 51) and Rohit Sharma (23 off 11) as the opening representatives, they were on song and registered the fastest team 50 in Tests, reaching the mark in a mere three overs. They stitched a 55-run stand, off just 24 balls for the opening wicket. Rohit soon departed and Shubman Gill next partnered with Jaiswal for 72 runs for the second wicket.

At the beginning of the 11th over, when Jaiswal hit a four, India reached the 100-run mark, making it the fastest by any team in the history of Test cricket. It is noteworthy that Jaiswal was the common denominator in both Team India’s top fastest 100s in Test cricket.

Fastest 150!

Jaiswal had to depart next and Rishabh Pant combined with Gill for just 14 runs for the next wicket. Post the second session, when Gill departed, Virat Kohli came down to unusually bat at no. 5 and after surviving a very close run-out chance through a mixup with Pant, he hit a four off the next delivery to take India to 150 in 18.2 overs.

This is the fastest a team has reached 150 in Tests as India yet again bettered their own record of 21.1 overs, having done it in the same Test (IND vs WI, Port of Spain 2023) where they first registered a fastest 100.

Fastest 200 as well!

After scoring the fastest 50, 100, and 150, a fastest 200 became quite imminent as Team India breached the 200-run mark in 24.2 overs when Pant departed and KL Rahul came in to support Kohli. This time, India surpassed the record of Australia (28.1 overs) who had scored the fastest 200 in Tests against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017.
