Players cry foul over fraud selection
At least 15 footballers from various districts in Uttar Pradesh including Prayagraj, Varanasi and Gonda protested against what they deemed as unfair selection.
Two selection committee members were accused of picking their family members, who reached Moradabad on Sunday – a day prior to the squad announcement – in the 22-member team.
After being asked to comment on the shocking matter, the regional sports officer Naresh Chandra Yadav said that the department provided all the necessary facilities to the players in the training camp and he had no say in the selection process.
Meanwhile, District Football General Secretary Mohammed Nasir Kamal rubbished all the accusations levelled against the selection committee and said that all the players from other states have taken No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to play for UP.
Nigam, one of the snubbed players, said that the selectors have ruined their future through the unjust selection process and by selecting players who can’t even kick the ball properly.
