Records galore as India whitewash Bangladesh in T20Is in Hyderabad

New Delhi: India vanquished Bangladesh by a heavy margin of 133 runs in the final T20 International match on Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Men in Blue inflicted a whitewash on the Tigers after drubbing them in the two-match Test series earlier in the month.

There was not much for the visitors to take positives from a deflating tour which saw some of their senior players take retirement in T20Is. However, the focus should be on the Indian team for its domineering show throughout the series. The excitement reached its peak in Hyderabad with batters piling runs for fun and bowlers defending the target frivolously.

Sanju Samson led the way with a blistering ton, his maiden three-digit score in T20Is, to power India to their highest score in T20 Internationals. Let’s take a look at the records broken in the 3rd T20I between India and Bangladesh.

297 for 6 was India’s highest total in T20Is, bettering their previous best of 260/5 against Sri Lanka in Indore. This was the highest total scored by a full member of the ICC with Afghanistan’s 278 for 3 versus Ireland in February 2019 was the previous best.
India’s score will remain the second highest with Nepal holding the record for 314/3 against Mongolia during the Asian Games in September 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
India hit 25 boundaries and 22 sixes, resulting in 232 runs being scored through boundaries. The previous best by an international team in T20Is was by Nepal – 212 against Mongolia (same match as mentioned above).
India recorded their joint-highest score in the powerplay overs in T20Is – 82/1. They made 82/2 against Scotland in Dubai at the T20 World Cup 2021.
Sanju Samson (111) became the highest individual run-scorer in an innings against Bangladesh from India. He also became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score three-figure score in T20Is, with Ishan Kishan’s 89 versus Sri Lanka in 2022 in Lucknow being the previous best in the concerned category.
Samson scored the second fastest hundred in T20Is by an Indian batter. He took 40 balls to reach his maiden T20I ton. Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma holds the record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian player with his milestone coming in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.
India scored its fastest team 100 in 43 balls and fastest team 200 in 84 balls in the T20Is format.
Suryakumar Yadav completed 2500 T20I runs (2544) in 71 innings to become the second fastest Indian batter to reach the mark. He surpassed his predecessor Rohit Sharma’s tally of 92 innings to reach the same feat. Only Virat Kohli has scored more than 2500 runs in 68 innings.
Mayank Yadav became the fourth bowler in India’s T20I history to pick up a wicket on the first ball of an innings. Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are other players from the country to achieve this in the past. Bhuvneshwar remains the only Indian bowler to do so in three overs.
