Alastair Cook, Neetu David and Ab de Villiers inducted into ICC Hall of fame

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the latest inductees into the ICC Hall of Fame as the class of 2024. Alastair Cook, Neetu David and Ab de Villiers are the three new additions to the long list of cricketing icons. They join as inductees 113, 114 and 115 respectively.

The ICC Hall of Fame was launched in January 2009 and it is an elite group of international players who have served the sport on and off the field with new additions made every year. The selections were made after a voting process where the existing Hall of Famers, senior executives, global cricket media and ICC participate every year.

Alastair Cook’s cricketing career

Cook has played 257 international matches for England and has made a significant impact in Test cricket. He has played 161 Test matches for the Three Lions and scored 12472 runs at an average of 45.35, including 33 centuries. He has also represented England in 93 ODI matches and scored 3204 runs.

161 Tests – 12,472 runs at an average of 45.35, 1 wicket

92 ODIs – 3,204 runs at an average of 36.40

4 T20Is – 61 runs at an average of 15.25

“I am delighted to have been chosen to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. It is a huge honour to join some of the greatest players to have ever played the game” said Alastair Cook to ICC.

Neetu David’s cricketing career

Neetu David was the first Indian women cricketer to take 100 wickets in One-Day Internationals. She played 97 ODI matches for India and picked up 141 wickets. The left-arm spinner also played 10 Test matches for her country and took 41 wickets.

10 Tests – 41 wickets at 18.90

97 ODIs – 141 wickets at 16.34

“It is truly an honour to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, something that I consider to be the highest recognition available to anyone who puts on their national team jersey. This comes after a lifetime of dedication to this great sport, and it caps a very special journey for me to get to this point” said Neetu David to ICC.

Ab de Villiers’ cricketing career

South African legend Ab de Villiers has played 420 international matches for the country and scored 20,014 runs. He played 114 Test matches and scored 8765 runs at an average of 50. The Proteas batter also represented his country in 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is, scoring more than 11,000 runs. He has notched up 47 centuries in international cricket.

114 Tests – 8,765 runs at an average of 50.66 plus 222 catches & 5 stumpings

228 ODIs – 9,577 runs at an average of 53.50 plus 176 catches & 5 stumpings

78 T20Is – 1,672 runs at an average of 26.12 plus 65 catches & 7 stumpings

“It is a tremendous honour to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, joining a select group of cricketers to be recognised in this way” said Ab de Villiers to ICC.
