Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid exit: Why the Italian is leaving and what lies ahead

New Delhi: Carlo Anelotti’s second stint as Real Madrid manager is nearing its end with the Italian set to leave the club this June, two years before his contract is officially due to expire. After an amazing, eventful spell where he added the silverware to his already glittering career. Carletto has reportedly informed the club of his decision to walk away at the end of the campaign.

Despite his deal running through to 2026, Ancelotti will not wait around for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States this June. Instead, he will bid farewell to Madrid after what’s been a difficult and emotionally charged season for the Spanish giants and will take over as Brazil’s national team head coach.

A rough end to a storied spell

Ancelotti’s exit follows a turbulent month for Real Madrid. A humiliating 5-1 defeat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals brought intense criticism upon the 64-year-old’s tactical approach. That loss was quickly followed by a Copa del Rey final heartbreak, where Madrid fell short in a 3-2 loss to their arch rivals, Barcelona. Even in La Liga, the club is currently trailing behind Barca by four points with just five games remaining, making the domestic title race increasingly difficult to conquer.

The manager’s departure was coming given the team’s poor run of form entire season, and it was clear that he had no solutions from day 1 of the campaign. While the Italian manager has enjoyed immense success during his two spells in charge, having won multiple La Liga and Champions League titles, the recent run of poor results has put pressure on the club and manager alike. The decision to part ways appears to be mutual.

Who will take over?

Former Madrid midfielder and current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner to succeed Ancelotti. The German side is believed to have a gentleman’s agreement in place allowing Alonso to leave if Real Madrid or any of his former clubs come calling.

What’s next for Ancelotti?

Ancelotti won’t be out of work for long, as he is close to officially closing on taking over as head coach of Brazil’s national team in June. The deal will see him lead the 62 year old lead the Brazil’s national team starting in June. The deal will see him lead the Selecao through to the 2026 World Cup, a role he has been linked with since 2023. After spending years with club football, the Italian is ready for a fresh challenge on the international stage.

Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid in June, ending a trophy-laden era. The Italian is set to take over as Brazil’s new head coach.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
