New Delhi: Team India’s top-order batsman Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia, which is set to begin on November 22 in Perth. As per the Indian Express report, Shubman fractured his thumb while fielding during match simulation on Saturday and has been ruled out of the opening Test.
A BCCI source as quoted by the Indian Express said that Shubman’s thumb is not looking good and the management got a scan done which showed a fracture. The source further said that it will take him at least two weeks to recover. He also said Shubman is ruled out of the first Test and the BCCI is hoping that he will recover in time for the second Test match which will start on December 6 in Adelaide.
With Gill missing the first Test, KL Rahul might get an opportunity to play in Perth. He was dropped from the Indian team for the second and third Test at home against New Zealand. Rahul was also hit on the elbow by a short ball during the match simulation on Day 1. According to the BCCI source, Rahul will resume his batting on Sunday and will be fit and ready for the first Test.
Rahul tried to continue batting after getting some medical assistance but decided to walk off the field after being hit by a rising delivery. The 32-year-old is going through a rough patch in his career and has struggled to score runs in the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Rahul was included in the Indian squad for the second unofficial Test against Australia A but he only managed to score just 14 runs in two innings.
