New Delhi: In India, pensioners now have a biometric-enabled digital service which is known as Jeevan Pramaan. It is open to any government pensioner who, after retirement, needs to give a life certificate to the authorities agencies like banks and post offices which disburses the pension. They will get the pension only after providing the life certificate. Earlier, one had to undergo considerable physical hassle to get the life certificate and the Jeevan Pramaan has made things easier for pensioners.
The Jeevan Pramaan Patra is a digital life certificate and it is created for each pensioner based on the Aadhaar number and biometrics. Now, pensioners do not have to physically go before the Pension Disbursing Officer to receive Jeevan Pramaan Patra.
No need to submit in person
The digital life certificate is available digitally and Pension Disbursing Agency process it instantly. As a result, there is no need for pensioners to submit it in person to the Pension Disbursing Agency. Many banks are now giving the facility of doorstep services to senior citizens to enable them to submit life certificates. It must be noted that senior pensioners who are 80 years and older had the option to submit their life certificates from October 1 and it would remain valid until November 30.
What if one cannot submit for illness?
There can be cases when a pensioner or a family pensioner is not able to submit Jeevan Pramaan Patra due to serious illness or incapacitation. On such occasions, the pensioner has to notify of the case and it should be supported by a Registered Medical Practitioner’s medical certificate about the pensioner being unable to appear in person. Then it has to be sent to the Pension Account Holding Branch’s officer-in-charge. The officer will nominate another officer to visit the home of the pensioner to record the life certificate.
If a pensioner is drawing the pension through a Public Sector Bank, then an officer of that bank can sign the Life Certificate. Also, a pensioner is exempted from personal appearance if the person produces a life certificate in Annexure-XIII prescribed form. It has to be signed by any person specified like a Registrar or Sub-Registrar and a Police Officer who is ranked not below Sub-Inspector
