His works, such as Narasimha Stotra, Mohanatarangini, Nalacharite, Ramadhanya Charite and Haribhakti Sara reflect his profound devotion.

His poetry emphasises devotion to Lord Krishna and guides followers toward spirituality and faith.

People attend talks or lectures on Kanakadasa’s life and teachings, participate in bhajan sessions or musical concerts, visit his samadhi in Hampi and read his literary works or listen to his songs to embrace his message of devotion and equality on Kanakadasa Jayanthi.

Kanakadasa Jayanthi speech in English

Here is Kanakadasa Jayanthi’s speech in English:

Good Morning to All,

Respected dignitaries, teachers, and my dear friends,

Today, we gather to celebrate Kanakadasa Jayanthi, a day dedicated to the memory of Shri Kanakadasa, a revered saint, poet, and social reformer whose teachings and compositions continue to inspire us.

Kanakadasa Jayanthi, observed on the 18th day of the Kartik month in the Hindu lunar calendar, is a day of pride for Karnataka and its rich cultural heritage. Kanakadasa, born in 1509 in Baada village near Bankapura, was not just a poet and musician but a revolutionary thinker who advocated for social equality and devotion to God.

Kanakadasa followed the Dvaita Vedanta philosophy of Madhvacharya and was a devoted disciple of Saint Vyasatirtha. His life took a spiritual turn after being wounded in battle, leading him to dedicate himself to the path of devotion. Kanakadasa’s teachings emphasised humility, devotion, and equality, breaking the rigid barriers of caste and social hierarchy.

One of the most famous legends about Kanakadasa is the story of the Kanaka Dwara at the Udupi Krishna Temple. When he was denied entry into the temple due to his caste, his heartfelt devotion compelled the deity’s idol to miraculously turn to face him through a small window. This event symbolized that God’s grace transcends all social distinctions.

Kanakadasa’s contributions to Kannada literature and Carnatic music are immense. He composed devotional songs, Keertanas, and Ugabhogas that are rich in spiritual depth and simplicity. His works, such as Nalacharite, Mohanatarangini, and Ramadhanya Charite, convey messages of love, devotion, and social justice.

Through his songs, Kanakadasa touched the hearts of people from all walks of life, making complex spiritual truths accessible to everyone. His compositions not only glorified Lord Krishna but also challenged social inequalities, making his teachings timeless and relevant even today.

Kanakadasa Jayanthi is more than just a tribute to a saint; it is a celebration of equality, spirituality, and the unifying power of music and literature. It reminds us of the values of humility, devotion, and the importance of breaking barriers that divide us as a society.

On this day, we pay homage to his legacy through cultural events, bhajans, and discussions about his life and teachings. It is a moment to reflect on his philosophy and apply it to our lives, fostering unity and love among all.

Kanakadasa Jayanthi is not just a celebration of a historical figure but a reaffirmation of the ideals of devotion and equality that he stood for. Let us honour his legacy by embracing these values in our lives and spreading the light of love and compassion.

Thank you, and I wish you all a meaningful Kanakadasa Jayanthi.
