Aadhaar document update: UIDAI extends free deadline by one year

Kolkata: Many of us need to update the details of Aadhaar. It can be due to change in address and also due to marriage (for women). According to the earlier deadline, updating details in the Aadhaar could be done for free of cost was June 14, 2025. One can take advantage of the free service through the myAadhaar portal. However, UIDAI has extended the deadline for free updation by one full year.

According to the rules, once the deadline is over one can to pay Rs 50 (or more if the amount is revised by the government) for updating the data. One has to pay the same amount for submitting the documents physically at the designated centers for Aadhar updation. The 12-digit identity number of Aadhaar was introduced in India in 2009.

According to the new decision, UIDAI has announced that one can carry out the free updation till June 14, 2026. Thanks to this decision, anyone can update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) through the myAadhaar to update the data. Millions of Indians undergo changes in their Aadhaar data by the virtue of settling at a new address, marriage and/or life events. Regular updation of such information helps to keep the database robust. Therefore, the UIDAI authorities urge Indians to update the information as soon as possible.

Flexible process

“UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2026; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar,” wrote UIDAI on its social media post. Keeping records updated is the key to the robustness of all databases.

The process is quite simple when attempted online. The portal allows one to upload documemts establishing new identity and address proofs in any format — JPEG, PNG and PDF. But the files have to be small in size — below 2 MB. It is a menu-driven process that takes a very short time.

The earlier deadline of updating details in the Aadhaar document for free was Saturday, June 14. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has thrown a lifeline to millions who need to update their details in the Aadhaar card and database.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
