New Delhi: In one of most bizarre dismissals ever witnessed in cricketing history, England’s Under-19 batter Aaryan Sawant went back to the pavilion in an unexpected manner during a clash against South Africa. On the third day of an unofficial Test match between England u-19 and South Africa u-19 at the Stellenbosch University, Sawant’s sweep shot proved too costly for him.

Batting on just 11 and looking in fine touch, Sawant swept a delivery bowled by South African spinner Jason Rowles but the ball bounced back on to the stumps after hitting the helmet of a close-in fielder, who in turn got injured during the process. Sawant’s shot hit the helmet of 18-year-old South African player Jorich Van Schalkwyk, who was at short leg and the ball hit back the stumps as the English batter was spotted standing outside the crease.

Van Schalkwyk injured in accidental run out

As soon as the ball hit the helmet of Jorich Van Schalkwyk, he fell on the ground and was quickly surrounded by all the teammates as soon as they realised that the ball had hit him hard. However, the fielder was later deemed out of danger. In the process, the English under 19 team lost their third wicket on a score of 106 runs in 30.4 overs.

They eventually recovered from the unexpected setback later in the day and managed to reach a score of 275/8 at stumps on third day. Wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew proved to be the standout batter in the side top scoring in the innings with 71 runs as England took their lead to a massive 255 runs with a dominant effort over the Proteas. The South African side will have to do a lot of effort so as to get back into the match.
